Provide Your Input on the 11th Edition CFAI® Model

Our effort to update the model to guide fire and emergency service agencies around the world through self-assessment and become accredited relies on input from members of those agencies and their communities. Key to this process was a core group of over 100 experts volunteering their time to examine the current model and suggest changes and additions to include in the 11th Edition. Now, it’s your turn to review those updates and provide your feedback on the proposed changes that will make up the new edition.

Download all of the documents and review the draft 11th Edition CFAI model today and provide your feedback via the Public Comment survey by August 30, 2024. (PLEASE NOTE: Because of the large number of documents, we are making them available for download from a Google Drive folder.) Justification forms have been prepared by each category/criteria technical working group to explain the background for their recommended changes.

What Are the Proposed Changes?

The entire model was up for revision to improve its usability and to better align the model with the current and projected needs of the fire and emergency service. Several performance indicators and core competencies were removed or edited while others were added. The most significant changes proposed in the draft 11th Edition include adding new criteria in Category 5 for EMS transport, in Category 9 for Public Information, and in Category 11.

Who Will Read Your Comments?

All the feedback we receive through this public comment opportunity will be reviewed and considered by the CPSE team of fire and emergency service leaders as we work to solidify the 11th Edition this fall.

When Will the 11th Edition be Finalized?

The Commission on Fire Accreditation International and CPSE Board of Directors will approve the 11th Edition in late 2024. All accredited and in progress agencies will receive a copy of the final 11th Edition by December 31, 2024. All educational materials and process documents will be updated to align with the 11th Edition by September 30, 2025. This is one whole year before agencies appearing before CFAI for accreditation in March 2027 will have to upload their documents.
