The Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) appoints Matthew Knott, CFO, FM, PIO, Fire Chief, Green Bay Metro Fire Department, WI, to the Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) representing CFOs who are agency heads protecting populations 50,000-250,000.

Matthew Knott serves as the fire chief of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Previously, he served in various roles of increasing responsibility for the Rockford Fire Department in Rockford, Illinois, where he retired after 25 years of service.

Chief Knott holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University. In addition, he completed the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program through the National Fire Academy (NFA) and the Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI) through the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). He served as a peer reviewer for the CFO, FM, and PIO designations and continues to be a peer team leader for the Center for Public Safety Excellence’s Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).

Chief Knott earned the designations of Chief Fire Officer (CFO) in 2010, Fire Marshal (FM) in 2013, and Public Information Officer (PIO) in 2025. He is also a Member with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
